So I went to the interview.

I hope they don't pick me, or else I'll have to decline. Some background, I checked for employee reviews for this company. Came up with 3 negative reviews, one really detailed. Strike one but I kept in mind that they might be disgruntled employees. I mean my company has one pretty bad review and I have an idea who the former employee was and who the supervisor in the review was and it was a valid complaint. The wording made the company look bad but considering this particular design head - accurate. Strike two was my reluctance to leave my current job. The one perk I do enjoy is that design comes in between 9:30-10:00 in the morning. Getting back to a 9:00 start time would be murder. I also like my co workers and my work load is not too intense. Third strike was the interview itself. I met with the president of the company and his son, no one from design. What does the president of the company and his son know of what I'd be doing on a daily basis? I mean we went over my experience and skills, over what I would be expected to do. Superficially we covered the bases. I asked about a more technical issue and the answer I got had nothing to do with my question which is why someone from design should have been doing at least part of the interview. It just rubbed me wrong because other interviews I've been to have been with a designer etc, then a call back to meet a higher up. This was the other way around and how does your design room gel if they don't have a hand in hiring? I mean that would explain the fast employee turnover that was part of the reviews on this company. Also the whole conversation was professional but the son had serious sleazeball vibes. No time for that.

The final straw though happened after work. I ran into a friend/former co worker in the lobby of our building. We go back to that job from 9 years ago. I told her about the interview and she knew the company, the people from my interview and she confirmed that working there was not a thing to do unless I really needed a job.

As for the agency thing, that's a thing, particularly with the advent of LinkedIn. I even got calls where I worked 8 years ago. A company needs a position filled, they contact an agency, the agency headhunts among companies similar to the company that contacted them. That's why it's easier to get another job while you have a job than when you actually need one. I usually say I'm not interested but every so often, I'll send in my resume when requested because it's always a good thing to have your name on their lists just in case.

The days leading up to Trumplethinskin

During the holiday pot luck/Secret Santa lunch at work a white, older, male co worker that I'm friendly with sat next to me and smiled as he told me he could say Merry Christmas now. He goes home to Virginia every weekend and he always seemed like a practical, no nonsense dude that I shoot the shit with every so often. This stunned me a bit. We're in NYC, in the office alone there are a lot of people who celebrate Hanukkah as opposed to Christmas or some amalgamation of both because of blended families and traditions. I've always said Merry Christmas to those I know celebrate it, Happy Hanukkah to those who celebrate that and Happy Holidays to those I'm not really sure about.I don't understand why this is such a THING.

My mother and I were discussing the idiocy of repealing Obamacare and the plans to defund Planned Parenthood. She was upset about the Trump voters that thought he didn't MEAN it when he said he would do these things. She was upset because the people who need these things most voted against their best interest and she could not understand whyyyy. She looked at me and said, "I'm done with that part of my life and I feel bad that Angelica and Stacy will have to fight for these things again."

Carrie Fisher is gone. I remember playing Princess Leia back in kindergarten and first grade. I had box forts and elaborate plots. I remember how my Princess Leia doll had practical flats for her rather large feet, that could she could actually stand on if I balanced the doll right, not like the tiny high heels that my barbies had. Carrie Fisher transcended her role as princess and foreshadowed her role as General Organa as she fought for acceptance of mental illness among all the things she accomplished. I feel that her courage in facing life will be an example to follow in the coming years.

No Autographs please

Just wanted to inform my adoring public that I am now a recording artist. LOL

I work at a company that sells sweaters and knits. We've been doing a booming Christmas sweater business for the last few years. This year we have ones that make music/sing when you press them. To avoid copyright issues we use songs that are in the public domain which are most popular/common Christmas songs. Then a bunch of us get together in a closed office and record a stanza or 2 on someone's iphone. This is then mixed/whatever and the soundbyte sent to the factory. Those who participate, wether you sang or just shook some jingle bells has to sign a release form for the use of your recorded voice etc.

My heart goes out to the people of Boston. Having lived through 9/11, seeing the videos of what happened today makes me sick to my stomach. I understand what the people of Boston are going through, there is shock and horror and the feeling that your city is NOT safe.

I just want to give a massive hug to the city, being home to the Red Sox and all.

Edited to add a link to ONTD_Political's good things post, filled with kittens and fluff.

So I was reading a fic the other day. One of the little background threads running through it was that since the main couple were expecting a baby, one of the parents was constantly suggesting DC/Marvel etc names for the baby which were shot down by the other main character because that character did not want a fandom name for the baby. However the character who kept suggesting names was actually gunning for a whedonverse name for the baby which he totally got because the other character did not realize that Alexander and the cute Xander nickname was from anything.

SO, if you had the chance and the desire to name your precious offspring after someone in fandom what/who would you pick?
The girls are marathoning LOTR as prep before watching The Hobbit sometime this break. I've tried to get them to watch the bass/rankin animated movie because I grew up on it really. Angelica has seen this version when she was younger and it kind of freaked her out a bit. I told them that during my childhood I'd been watching it annually since I was about 4/5. Angelica's response to this?

"That explains SO much."

LOL
